Your Letters: Move to Wadena keeps giving back

Three years ago this past May we made a big decision to leave the big city of Saint Paul and move to Wadena. It was time for us to settle in a smaller town where community, neighbors, and school are important and where we'd be closer to family.

Three years ago this past May we made a big decision to leave the big city of Saint Paul and move to Wadena. It was time for us to settle in a smaller town where community, neighbors, and school are important and where we'd be closer to family.

We couldn't be happier with our decision. We both found jobs that we enjoy, and opportunities that have enriched our lives here in the Wadena community. My husband Paul worked for two years at the Wadena campus of MSCTC and now works for the Distance Education office of MSCTC in Perham. He is active on the Wadena Chamber of Commerce Board and helps with numerous events in and around Wadena.

I have been a special education teacher at Wadena-Deer Creek High School since 2004. During that time I have had the opportunity to work with outstanding teachers, support staff, school boards, administration, and of course students. I continue to be impressed with the services and opportunities our school is able to offer its students. Between academic opportunities, fine arts offerings, leadership activities and athletics, Wadena-Deer Creek schools seem to have something to offer every student. I've been active in after school programs to help students with their study skills and with the senior prom. My husband has had numerous opportunities to coach with the football and basketball programs.

We truly feel thankful for the opportunities we have had here in Wadena and through the Wadena-Deer Creek school district. We hope these opportunities are there for us and for the youth of WDC for many years to come.
