A 10-year-old pedestrian appears to be OK after being struck by a van as he crossed the Nimrod bridge on the Crow Wing River on Friday, Sept. 4.
Around 11 a.m., emergency responders went to the scene, and a sheriff's investigator learned that the 10-year-old boy had waited for two semis to cross the bridge, then ran across, into the path of the oncoming van. The van was only going about 15-20 mph at the time of the crash, according to all witnesses.
A witness told authorities that after the boy was struck, he hit the ground and then got up and tried to run toward Nimrod. But the witness told the boy to lie down and not move in case he was injured. The boy was treated at Tri-County Hospital for lacerations and required stitches, but had no broken bones, a police report said.
The boy said he waited for the two semis to pass, but failed to look for other oncoming vehicles.
The 55-year-old driver of the van was not hurt in the accident.
