After being snowed out for two weeks of meets, Wadena-Deer Creek's track and field teams competed with reckless abandon, earning 30 personal records as well as great relay times last week.
At the Thunder Invitational at Long Prairie on April 17, the Wolverine girls were runners-up to the champion Pierz squad by two and a half points while the boys were sixth out of 10 teams. On April 19 at the John Riemer Invitational in Pillager, the girls were third and the boys were sixth out of 13 teams.
In LPGE, the event winners were Hannah Toedter in the 1600 and the boys 4x100 relay team (Riley Snyder, Max LaBarre, Caleb Haman and Cody Truax) while the event winner in Pillager consisted of the girls 4x200 relay (Alexa Hoffman, Cassy Popp, Jessica Salge and Brigetta Berg).
Individually, the most points earned went to Berg who was runner-up five times; twice in two events (pole vault and discus) and once in the 200 meter dash. Cory Asfeld was runner-up in three events (800, 1600 and 3200). Haman was pole vault runner-up in both meets while Bethany Papillon earned runner-up honors in the 800 in Pillager. Relay runner-ups went to the girls' 4x800 and 4x400 teams and the boys' 4x200 team in both meets.
Thrower Sara Ruerink earned three third-place finishes; two in the shot put and one in the discus. Emily Wood was third in the 400 in LPGE. Hoffman finished fourth in three events (100, long jump and high jump) in both meets. Alex Barbato was fourth in the 400 in both meets. Distance runners Kelsey Browne and Bailee Schissel placed fourth in the 1600 and 3200 respectively at LPGE.

Robbie Ludovissie earned fifth place in the 800. Sixth place finishers include Tim Papillon (3200), Salge (triple jump), the boys 4x400 relay and Zach Toedter in the high jump. Truax earned a seventh in the long jump and eighth went to Marquis Johnson in the discus.
Wolverine non-placers earning personal records were Chelsea Boeckman (shot put and discus), Dane Hoffman (shot put, discus and 400), Kirsten Tentler (400), Caitlyn Kreller (800), Zach Bernu (1600), Rachel Richter (triple jump) and Isaiah Toedter (100 and 200).
The Wolverines host the Browne Invitational on Friday with field events beginning at 4 p.m. and the running events at 4:30 p.m.
