Wolverine girls tennis drops a pair of matches

The Wadena-Deer Creek girls tennis team won three of the four singles matches but was swept in the doubles portion in the 4-3 loss to Perham on Sept. 23.

The Wadena-Deer Creek girls tennis team won three of the four singles matches but was swept in the doubles portion in the 4-3 loss to Perham on Sept. 23.

Katie Anderson defeated Perham's Danielle Brenk 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Haley Anderson defeated Hannah Brenk at No. 3 singles in a three set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3 (10-4). Wolverine Marcy Hartman capped the scoring, winning the No. 4 singles match 6-3, 3-6 (10-7) over Britta Sundberg.

Hartman had the Wolverines' lone win in the loss to Pequot Lakes on Sept. 25. She defeated Patriots' Carol Meister at No. 4 singles by scores 7-5, 7-5 as the Wolverines dropped the match 6-1.

The Wolverines' annual Lions Tournament last Saturday became a triangular instead as two teams dropped out. WDC defeated Crosby-Ironton 5-2 as the Wolverines swept all singles matches and picked up a win at No. 2 doubles from Kelley Johnson/Brittany Anderson.

Katie Anderson dominated the Rangers' Alice Bertram 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles; Andrea Jensen defeated Brittany Metsa 6-1, 6-1; Haley Anderson defeated Savanah Fore 6-1, 6-3 and Sam Holweger bounced back to win 2-6, 6-2 (6-2) over Ashley Barutt to complete the singles sweep.

Johnson/Anderson won their doubles match in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 over the Rangers' duo of Kayla Minarich/Heather Robinson.

The Wolverines (5-9) hosted West Central Area on Tuesday and will close out the regular season at Long Prairie today (Thursday) at 4:30 p.m.
