After playing six games in the course of the week, the Wadena-Deer Creek baseball team can rest up in preparation for the playoffs starting on May 30.

The Wolverines opened up the diamond action with a 10-2 loss to visiting Roseau on May 15 as the Rams scored three runs in the opening frame. WDC bounced back to score two runs in the bottom half of the inning as Seth Hamman walked, stole second and scored on Jascha Pettits RBI single. Pettit would score on Preston Stearns RBI double.

The undefeated Rams would take command of the game from that point on. Nathan Volls two-run shot in the fifth inning sealed the victory for Roseau.

In the conference doubleheader with Detroit Lakes on May 16, the Wolverines lost the first game 4-2 and then were defeated 10-6 in the nightcap.

Hamman led off the game with a double and then scored on Derek Neus RBI single in the first inning. The Wolverines added to their lead in the second after Ryan Kephart walked, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Brandon Ohrmundts RBI single for the 2-0 lead.

The Lakers tied it up 2-2 in the third, and then broke the tie with one run each in the fifth and seventh innings. Laker Jake Kiebke provided the winning run in the fifth after he hit a solo homer. Detroit Lakes added the insurance run from Alex Provo in the seventh.

The Lakers amassed 14 hits to win the nightcap 10-6 while the Wolverines collected nine hits and stranded nine base runners in the loss.

Stearns two-run double sparked the Wolverines four-run third inning and Jasmer tallied another run with his RBI single.

Hamman went 3-for-4 with a run at the plate and was on the losing end of the pitching for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines opened up the WDC Baseball Invitational on Friday with a close 4-3 victory over the Brainerd JV team. In the opening frame, Stearns had a RBI double and run to spot the Wolverines with the 2-0 lead.

Kephart tallied another run in the third off a Brainerd error. The Warriors would fight back to tie it 3-3 in the top of the fifth before the Wolverines got the game winner on Neus RBI single.

Stearns scored off a wild pitch in the second inning for the Wolverines only scoring in the 11-1 loss to Pelican Rapids in the championship game of the invitational. The Vikings handcuffed the Wolverines, allowing just two hits in the contest. Stearns collected a single and Hamman had a double.

The Wolverines defeated New York Mills 7-3 on Monday in a make-up contest and will prepare for the playoffs.
