William George McCormick Sr., 81, died March 25, 2006, at Lakewood Health Systems.
He was born December 12, 1924, to John B. and Anna Rose (Dorn) McCormick in Red Eye Township, Wadena County. He attended school in District 26, Wadena County and Sebeka. He ran the family farm and was Sebeka police chief. He also worked at the Air Force base in Minot, N.D., and as a cheese maker at the Aldrich Creamery for many years. Most recently, he worked at Keys Truck Stop before health problems forced him to retire. He was active in the Mid-Minnesota Draft Horse Association and the Sebeka Firemans Association. He attended church at Thomastown Covenant in Staples. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time visiting with his friends telling stories and bragging about his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He could often be found outside working with his beloved horses and tending to the many farm animals and his dog, Boy.
His funeral was March 28 at the Thomastown Convenant Church in Staples with the Rev. Fred Horschal and the Rev. Scott Kingsley officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with the Bielema Family Funeral Home in Verndale in charge of arrangements. Casketbearers were Shane McCormick, Fritz Kern, Dustin Kern, Jeremiah Kern, Timothy McCormick, Thomas McCormick, Robert McCormick, Timothy Grondahl, Tucker Grondahl, Brian Kingsley, David Kingsley and Louis Edgell.
Survivors include his eight children: William Jr. (Deb) of Stewart, Anne (Ronald) Martak of Friendsville, Tenn., Timothy (Sheila) McCormick of Plaquemine, La., Arthur (Diana) McCormick of Cooksville, Tenn., Lucinda (Wally) Anderson of Verndale, Juanita Reed (Paul Lutz) of Breezy Point, Dorothy (Scott) Kingsley of Sebewaing, Mich., and Kathi (Dave) Edgell of Morgantown, W.V.; one brother, Dorn (Pat) McCormick of Sebeka; 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Elizabeth, Mary and Julia; four brothers, John, Lincoln, Elmer and Mike; and one great-grandson.
