The Wadena-Deer Creek School Board has scheduled community meetings to discuss proposed budget and staff reductions for the 2010-11 academic year. The meetings will be open to the public to discuss the school board's proposed $450,000 in budget reductions for the upcoming school year.
WDC School Board president Ann Pate said the WDC School District is currently facing unprecedented cuts once again in education funding.
"The School Board and the district's administration place a high priority on protecting our students' education, while still acting in a fiscally responsible manner. Unfortunately, the state budget situation continues to deteriorate and the magnitude of the funding reductions will now necessitate district reduction," said Pate.
The first community meeting will be held at the Deer Creek Community Center at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 9. The second series of community meetings will be at noon and at 7 p.m., on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Wadena-Deer Creek School District Office conference room, located at 520 Colfax Ave SW. The public is encouraged to bring their own bag lunch for the noon community meeting.
