This summer, Wadena-Deer Creek Public Schools is installing interactive, electronic white boards in the high school and elementary, which will enhance learning for students as well as assist teachers with their instruction.
"Interactive white boards are used in schools as a source of technology that expands students' learning opportunities," explained Aaron Johnson, Information Systems Coordinator at WDC Schools. "The interactive white boards provide ways to show students anything that can be presented on a computer's desktop."
According to Tyler Church, WDC High School principal, interactive boards also allow teachers to record their instruction and post the material for review by students at a later time.
"This can be a very effective instructional strategy for students who benefit from repetition, who need to see the material presented again, for students who are absent from school, for struggling learners, and for review for tests," Church said.
Five interactive boards will be installed in the high school and three in the elementary school this summer. Teachers will be trained to use the interactive boards prior to school starting on Sept. 8.

Expanding learning opportunities for students using emerging technologies like the interactive boards is part of WDC's strategic plan for 2009-14.
"Exposing our students to learning with the use of technology helps them develop skills necessary to succeed in today's world," Superintendent Virginia Dahlstrom said. "We are excited to bring interactive white boards into our classrooms."
