Wadena-Deer Creek Homecoming week kicks off Monday with students wearing pajamas and ends on Sept. 21 with blue and gold dress and the return of the Homecoming parade.

The football game will be Friday night with the Wolverines facing Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton.

The 2007 Wadena-Deer Creek royalty was announced at a pep fest on Monday. Queen candidates are: Kayla Youngbauer, Kayla Guck, Brittany Ohrmundt, Tracy Gustafson and Alexandra Dickhaus. King candidates are: Andrew Snyder, Mitch Frieler, Zac Lundgren, Matt Stone and Matt Lepper. The king and queen will be crowned Monday evening at coronation.

Dress up days were announced at the pep fest by WDC student council advisers Holly Kraft and Mike Ortmann. Students can dress up each day for a certain theme.

Monday is PJ/lounge day where kids can come to school wearing their pajamas. A kickoff assembly for homecoming week including a fall sports promo is also Monday. Coronation is at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the high school gym. The location is different from last year when it was at Memorial Auditorium, Ortmann said at the pep fest on Monday. Seniors can attend a post-coronation party at 9 p.m.

Tuesday's dress-up theme is TV celebrity day. Students can participate in lunch room games as well.

Wednesday is color day where each grade wears a different color: seniors, black; juniors, blue; sophomores, yellow; freshmen, red; eighth grade, orange; and seventh grade, brown. Faculty will wear pink this year. Students will be dismissed to attend powder puff football at 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

Thursday is dress-outside-the-box day. Ortmann explained that this means students should dress in a way they normally wouldn't dress. However, he joked that students had to wear some kind of clothing. There will be lunch room games Thursday as well. An elementary school pep fest is at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Friday is spirit day and students are encouraged to wear blue and gold, the school colors. The Homecoming Parade has returned this year and will be at 2 p.m. in downtown Wadena. A dance for seventh- through ninth-graders will be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The football game is at 7 p.m. WDC will face Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. A ninth- through 12th-grade dance will follow the game.
