The Wadena-Deer Creek hockey team is excited to host its first home varsity game of the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Dec. 17 a their indoor Wadena rink. The puck will drop at 2 p.m.
Fox Sports North TV will be at the game to film some of the action as part of a feature story. Their story will focus on how the hockey program survived the tornado that destroyed the Wadena Community Center that housed the rink and how they are rebuilding their hockey arena.
According to hockey parents/volunteers Tim Muehler and Scott Carr, work continues on the hockey facility. While the rink is fully enclosed under a steel structure, there is still work to be done inside. As many as 15 hockey volunteers are helping set up temporary locker rooms, concessions, lobby area and bathrooms for home hockey games.
"We are trying to get the word out about our first home game and our new facility. We want the community to come out and be a part of the excitement!" Carr said.
