The Wadena-Deer Creek girls golf team opened the season with a 10th-place showing of the 17-team field at the Perham Lakeside Golf Course on Monday.
The Wolverines scored 450 points and were led by Ashley Fixs 106. Tracy Gustafson was one stroke behind at 107, while Amy Brown had 110 and Katie Anderson, 127, to pace the Wolverines.
Christine Herzog of Detroit Lakes was the medalist in the event, shooting an 80 to lead the Lakers in first place with 348 points.
Area teams placing include Staples-Motley in third with 380 and Park Rapids in ninth with 442.
The Wolverines head to the Preserve in Brainerd for the two-day Pequot Lakes/Brainerd Invitational starting today (Thursday) and finishing up Friday afternoon. On Saturday they will participate in the Cardinal Invitational at the Legacy Golf Course. Tee time is slated for 9 a.m.
