The Wadena-Deer Creek boys golf team hosted the first Mid-Minnesota golf invitational at the Whitetail Run Golf Course on April 17 and had a strong outing on the home course.
In the first of the four Mid-Minnesota events, the Wolverines found themselves in second place but close enough in points to be nipping at leader Staples-Motleys heels in the team standings.
The Cardinals finished with 22 points and gained four bonus points for being the team winner for a total of 26.
The Wolverines closed out the nine-hole event with 19 points and got the four-point bonus behind Brennen Truaxs par for course 36. The low score gave Truax the medalist honors and put the Wolverines just three points behind the Cardinals in the team standings with 23.
Park Rapids scored 13 points, and Menahga-Sebeka had five points.
