A Wadena woman was charged April 30 with neglect of a child and endanger child -- situation could cause harm or death after she allegedly left a 16-year-old girl in the care of a 34-year-old man who brought her to the casino and marijuana house parties.

According to court documents, Mary Bevre, 49, learned a 16-year-old girl in her care was arriving in town earlier than Bevre anticipated, and Bevre didn't know what to do with her since she had plans for the weekend. Bevre allegedly allowed the 16-year-old to spend the weekend with a 34-year-old man staying at a Wadena motel. The man allegedly brought the girl to the casino and to two house parties where people were smoking marijuana.

When the 16-year-old talked to police, she a them she knew the 34-year-old man to be a "hustler" and a "professional gambler" who had spent some time in prison, but she didn't know what the charge was.

A first appearance has been scheduled in the case for June 1.
