Proposed Wadena entrance signs are waiting for sponsors welcome.

Last spring the Wadena City Council agreed on the design for five entrance signs, but funding is still needed for the signs construction.

The city wanted to put up all the signs at the same time after funds are raised for the total cost. The City Council wanted all signs to be installed at the same time to maintain consistency and limit costs.

Some groups have come forward to pay for a sign or part of a sign, but the project is still lacking funding for all of them.

Were two to three signs away from the project, said Wadena Mayor Wayne Wolden.

About a year ago, the signs were estimated to cost $6,700 each if they were created at the same time.

Last spring, the City Council approved signs 10 feet high by 5 feet wide to resemble an art deco movie theater marquee. The signs will say Wadena on both sides and incorporate a sweeping W that is already part of Wadenas logo. Colors will be black and silver.

The Wadena City Council will discuss the sign project at its regular meeting on Tuesday.

Wolden thinks the project could progress soon with help from sponsors.

My hope is that on March 14th, well have people come forward and say were going to make this happen, he said.

Wolden would like to see the signs for Wadenas 125th anniversary celebration this year.
