The Wadena Pioneer Journal was honored recently with two journalism awards from the Minnesota Newspaper Association. Every year newspapers across the state are judged in a number of areas, and this year the PJ took home first place for Best Use of Photography as a Whole among all weekly newspapers in Minnesota.
"Nice, bold and colorful photos," wrote the judge. "...What moved this entry to the top is that there is good photography throughout."
Former Pioneer Journal Editor Anna Erickson also won an individual award in the category of Local Breaking News in weekly newspapers with a distribution of 1,501-2,500, in which she earned third place for her coverage of the Antonio St. Marie murder.
