A one-year-old child was found unresponsive in a pool of water Saturday evening in Blueberry Township.
The Wadena County Sheriff's office reported the child's father was the one that discovered the child unresponsive in the water. Upon arriving at the scene, officers began CPR on the child and continued CPR while the child was transported by Tri-County Ambulance to a waiting North Air Care helicopter located near Menahga School.
The child was later pronounced deceased on arrival at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.
Sheriff Mike Carr said the father was outside working on the front side of the house for a short time. The father walked to the back of the house and saw the child floating in the water of a small rock pond, approximately four feet deep, in close proximity to the house. The child is believed to have been in the water for approximately 5-10 minutes before being discovered, the sheriff's office reported.
While the case is still under investigation by the Wadena County Sheriff's Office, Carr said foul play in not suspected and all evidence, at this time, indicates this was a tragic accident.
