We (Oprah and Gayle, a.k.a. Noah and I) are waylaid in Syracuse for two days. The doctor wanted Noah to stay close to the hospital to ensure that they have a handle on the situation. The doctor was concerned about bronchial closure. Apparently the situation was so bad that it was starting to affect his ability to breathe. Criminy - as if the sight of the whole mess didn't take one's breath away!

Things are improving today though. The swelling has gone down and the itching and pain are reduced. It still looks like his body is under attack, but it will take many more days and possibly weeks before that situation fully improves. He has to take medicine for four weeks and will get an allergy screening when he returns home to try and figure out what caused this episode.

Without any further complications we should be on our way back to Wakefield, Canada mid-day on Monday. That will give us at least three solid days with the kids before we are scheduled to head home. I say "scheduled" because after our flight adventures at the outset of this trip and our delay at the border yesterday, I recognize that about anything could happen on this trip at this point and seem par for the course.

Albeit, in life there is always a rainbow after the rain - you just have to look for it sometimes. Our rainbow will be getting to have lunch with my cousin Scott and his partner Seann in Watertown. I have not seen my cousin Scott for 49 years - yes, not since I was a very young child. We have been communicatung via Facebook for the past couple of years and trying to find a time when my path crosses close enough to his home in upstate New York so that we can get together. With our travel schedule this time I wasn't sure whether we would be able to make it happen; but, then came all the fright of Noah's emergency medical situation and here we are beyond the rain looking at the rainbow. There is a balance in the universe.

As of now, this trip appears to be getting back on track. Please keep your fingers crossed that we have more rainbows than rain. ;-)
