The show must go on: There will be a Wadena County Fair, and it will be at the Wadena County Fairgrounds

Sheldon Monson, president of the Wadena County Ag Society, wanted to assure the public that the Wadena County Fair will, in fact, take place at the Wadena County fairgrounds.

Monson said that rumors have gone around that the county fair will take place in Perham, Motley or other towns outside the county. The hearsay is based on the fact that neighboring fairs did offer their facilities; however, the town will still utilize its own fairgrounds.

Organizers got a structural engineer to conduct safety checks to determine which areas of the fairgrounds are suitable for the public.

"We can use the 4-H building," Monson said. "We can use the big dairy barn for the fair."

For those with safety concerns, a public forum was held July 14 at the fairgrounds.

Because many areas of the fairgrounds are still structurally unsafe or unsure, the Ag Society will rent tents for the exhibits and bring in portable bleachers for grandstand events.

Motocross races, new to the Wadena County Fair, will be the first of the grandstand events on Wednesday, July 28. Other highlights include a truck and tractor pull on Friday, July 30 and a demo derby on Saturday, July 31.

For the first time in three years, the Wadena County Fair will also feature a carnival, Minnesota Magic Midway. The Anoka-based group will also provide the carnival for the Crow Wing County Fair in Brainerd and the Faribault County Fair in Blue Earth.

"Advance sale tickets for carnival rides are on sale at Super One, the drug store, and Lynk's True Value Hardware for substantial savings," Monson said.

The Wadena County Fair will take place Wednesday evening, July 28, through Saturday, July 31. Potential exhibitors still have time to enter contests, but the pre-registration deadline in some departments is as early as Friday, July 23.

A schedule of events can be found on the Wadena County Fair's website, www.wadenacountyfair.com .
