Wadena's Community Thanksgiving dinner has become a tradition for those involved with it.
"There is a chemistry -- it's hard to tangibly explain," said Richard Paper, an organizer of the event. "It's fun for people who come and those who help."
The dinner is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 22 and it will once again be at the Wadena-Deer Creek High School commons area.
Thinking about the dinner over the years, Paper said what has struck him the most is that the event is "so broad-based in the community." There are so many different organizations involved, he said.
Everybody has a great time helping out. Paper said he can't think of one person who hasn't come back to help a second year, whether washing dishes or hanging artwork in the commons.

The event is a collaboration that takes much planning. The day before the meal, stuffing is made for the turkeys and other food is organized and brought to the high school kitchen.
The meal is a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries, green beans, rolls and pumpkin pie. Milk is also available.
On the day of Thanksgiving, before the meal is served, volunteers keep busy carving the turkeys and preparing the rest of the food. Others set up tables. Those who attend will be greeted by local royalty (Miss Wadena and princesses). Musical entertainment will be part of the meal. Each year those who attend have an opportunity to socialize with those who attend every year and to welcome new people.
"It's an ultimate social event," Paper said. "You never know who is going to show up."
Prior to the meal being served, deliveries are made around the community. About seven or eight people box up the Thanksgiving meals and deliver them. About 150 were delivered last year, Paper said.
It is an absolutely free meal but people know that the Wadena Food Shelf is behind the meal, he said. In recent years, people have really stepped up with donations to the food shelf, which has helped, Paper said.
No reservations are needed to attend but in order to have a delivered meal, call (218) 631-2617. This number can also be called if someone is interested in volunteering.
