Tri-County Hospital was recently awarded $25,000 in funding from the Minnesota Rural Flex Grant Program for advanced trauma training. Both the hospital's Emergency Medical Services and Emergency Department staff will actively participate in the training. The overall goal is to provide progressive trauma training to improve the professional development of the EMS network in the Tri-County Hospital service area.
"Keeping current with continuing education on advanced trauma training saves lives," said Allen Smith, Tri-County Hospital EMS manager. "Highly trained staff is essential when it comes to knowing what to do in a life-threatening situation."
The pre-hospital trauma course was conducted for 23 EMS personnel in early February. The trauma nurse and emergency pediatric courses will also be conducted for 25 ED nurses this spring. Trauma training is conducted by Emergency Training Associates, Fergus Falls.
