Donny Tabery had a triple-double Monday night as the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines posted a 73-43 victory at Crookston to even their season record at 5-5.

Scott Syverson returned to double figures with a 15-point night. Tabery and Kevin Tumberg were right behind with 14 apiece. Jordan Reed netted 11.

Tabery also had 12 assists, 10 rebounds and five steals. The 12 assists was just one shy of an individual game record.

The Wolverines dominated the boards 50-26 and pulled down a whopping 31 offensive rebounds.

Monday's victory was the first for WDC since Jan. 9 when they stunned Crosby-Ironton 88-72 at Crosby. The Rangers were the Class 2A state runner-up in 2008 and have only lost once this season.

The Pirates made the mistake of pressing the Wolverines.

"When teams press us it seems like we play well," said WDC head coach Travis Hensch. "We played with fire."

Carter Denison tacked up 15 for the Pirates, who fell to 2-7.

The Wolverines will return to action Friday at New York Mills.

Lynn Peterson's Staples-Motley team canned 15 of 24 three-pointers for a sizzling 62.5 percent Friday night in beating the Wolverines on their home court.

Coming off an impressive win over defending Mid-State champ Crosby-Ironton, the Wolverines stayed within striking distance of the bombing Cardinals and trailed by six, 37-31, at the midway point. Peterson's team had seven treys to WDC's two in the first half.

The Cards, who got four treys from Mike Lindaman, three from Jordan Riewer, Gunner Johnson and Derek Wolhowe and two from Jordan Peterson, out-scored the Wolverines 38-24 in the second half. Riewer led the team with 17 points. Lindaman, Johnson and Wolhowe all had 14.

Riewer also had nine steals in the game.

Donny Tabery led all scorers with 23 points. The Wadena-Deer Creek senior also had 10 rebounds. Jordan Reed hit double figures with 11 points. The Wolverines had six players in double figures Jan. 9 in their 88-72 win over Crosby-Ironton.

The win gave the Cards a 3-1 record in Mid-State play and a 9-2 record overall. The loss left the Wolverines at 1-3 in conference action.
