PARK RAPIDS, Minn. -- A man charged with trying to choke his foster son won’t contest his extradition in a Fargo court and will be returned to Hubbard County on Friday or Monday at the latest, according to Hubbard County Sheriff Cory Aukes.
Dennis James Sullivan Jr., 50, is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault for allegedly stuffing a latex glove down the throat of his 10-year-old foster child.
Hubbard County deputies raced to Sullivan’s Benedict home Tuesday night after an Anoka County Social Services worker contacted authorities.
According to the criminal complaint, the assault took place around 5 p.m. and was interrupted by Sullivan’s wife. Sullivan called a mental health center in Grand Forks, N.D., expressing “homicidal thoughts” and headed north, the complaint said.
The center notified authorities, and Sullivan was apprehended in Grand Forks on an outstanding warrant for driving under suspension or with a revoked license. He was transferred Wednesday to the Cass County jail in Fargo.

Sullivan is licensed as a general surgeon and flies to various health care facilities.
