Wadena-Deer Creek drama's one-act play cast received five starred performances in a first-place finish in subsection competition in Wadena on Saturday.

Haley Kellogg, Kelsi Vorderbruggen, Maddie Eckman, Britta Moen and Tess Kirkland donned 1940s-era clothing and hairdos to portray women in their 80s who dream of being young again for their starred performances in "Memories of the Way We Were," an original production by English teacher Jay Patterson.

"I've never seen them do better," Patterson said. "They were just incredible."

The Eagle Valley one-act cast placed second in a very close competition, he said.

Patterson described the girls as teenagers "acting professionally." The judges said the girls had an honesty and believability in their characterizations, he said.

The cast also includes Josiah Berger as a maintenance man at the assisted living facility where the women live. Lindsey Juers, Keri Monson and Hadley Boline provided technical support.

The public is invited to performances of "Memories of the Way We Were" and another one-play, "Hurry up and Wait," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Auditorium. Admission is free.

The cast of "Memories of the Way We Were" will participate in section competition on Saturday, Feb. 6 in Hawley.
