Wadena-Deer Creek junior high students were wowed and amazed by a presentation on the wonders of water on Friday, Jan. 13 at Deer Creek School.
Like wizards from a Harry Potter movie, Headwaters Science Center outreach educators, James Owens and Frank Hazard, demonstrated the unique properties of water in its three distinct states - solid, liquid and gas. With the assistance of eager student-volunteers, Owens and Hazard showed students the versatility of water and its properties with nitrogen, ethanol, heat and more.
WDC science teacher Dawn Paurus, who coordinated the presentation for the students, said providing this program to students heightens their interest in science.
"The students loved the presentation," Paurus said. "It was a lot of fun to see them participate, remain engaged, and learn."
Headwaters Science Center is located in Bemidji. Owens said its mission is to provide intellectual stimulation and enjoyment for youths and adults with scientific and technological interactive displays, exhibits and programs currently unavailable in the region.

"Our goal is to keep kids interested in science," said Owens.
