A Verndale man was charged with burglary after allegedly being discovered sleeping in a bedroom with valuables stacked around him.

According to court records, the homeowner discovered Brandon Michael Snyder, 24, "sleeping" in her bed just after 2 a.m. on Sept. 18, but Snyder still had a flashlight in his hand, she said.

In the room, valuables such as coins, cash and jewelry were missing or were stacked on a dresser -- which was not their normal spot, the alleged victim told authorities. The resident started screaming at Snyder, who left on his bike. A window screen was removed from a bedroom window and several items were missing, the alleged victim said.

He was charged Sept. 22 with first-degree burglary of a dwelling, a felony. His next court date was set for Oct. 5.
