The Shockers handed the Bertha Blazers a 3-1 defeat for the second time in a week on Saturday in Deer Creek.

Jordan Wohlwend scored the three runs for the Shockers and picked up the victory on the mound. He allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out five in nine innings.

Travis George went 2-for-4 and Jeremy Erickson was 1-for-2 with a double as the Shockers scattered three hits in the win.

On Sunday, the Shockers saw their late inning rally and brief lead fall short to the visiting Vergas Loons in an 11-7 loss.

Vergas battered Shocker southpaw Jayme George early as the Loons got a three-run homer from Jake Bachmann in the third inning to take a 6-1 lead.

Wadena-Deer Creek finally found some voltage in the bottom of the sixth inning to score six runs and regain the lead. Jamie Nordlund led off the inning with a double. Travis George followed with a single and stole second. After Erickson flew out to right field, Casey Johnson walked to load the bases and Vergas pitcher Garrett Dahlgren sent a pair of runs across when he walked Eric Blom and hit Andrew Dornbush with a pitch.

Derek Neu's RBI single scored Johnson and Wohlwend drew another bases-loaded walk to drive Dahlgren from the mound. Jayme George got to Loon reliever Jake Stoll with a two-run single that gave the Shockers the lead, 7-6.

Vergas was able to stop the bleeding when Nordlund flew out to center for the second out and Loon centerfielder Josh Hoskins gunned down Wohlwend at the plate.

With the Shockers holding on to a one-run lead, Jayme George turned the pitching duties over to younger brother Travis George in the seventh inning. But four Shocker errors combined in the eighth and ninth innings allowed the Loons to score five runs in the two frames for the 11-7 victory.

Despite allowing just one earned run in three innings of relief, Travis George was saddled with the loss as he gave up six hits and struck out one.

The Shockers allowed seven hits in the loss and were led by Travis George's 2-for-5 effort.

The final weekend of regular season action finds the Shockers (14-5) hosting Detroit Lakes at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Deer Creek. In the Hi-10 season finale, the Shockers host New York Mills at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Wadena.
