Semi leaves Highway 71; driver not injured

A southbound Volvo semi truck hauling a load of sawdust chips was damaged Thursday morning when it left Highway 71 nine miles north of Wadena in Rockwood Township.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, Corey Allen Olson, 40, of Badger, Minn., was not injured in the accident. Olson told the State Patrol he reached down for an energy drink and during this time his semi truck got close to the shoulder of the road. The truck was pulled into the ditch, rolled on it's side and slid for approximately 100 feet before coming to a stop. Olson's dog was killed when it fell out of the truck and was trapped underneath. Olson was wearing a lap and shoulder belt.
Olson was cited for duty to drive with due care.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) provided signs and two employees to assist with traffic control. The Wadena Sheriff's Department also assisted at the scene. The vehicle was towed from the scene by Collins Brothers Towing Service.
