Wadena-Deer Creek Schools are sorting through stacks of books -- but many were damaged in the June 17 tornado.

According to WDC schools media centers coordinator Loni Niles, all the books were retrieved from the high school; however, only about 40 percent were salvageable. When the tornado hit the school, the sprinkler system was activated, damaging the majority of the books. Furthermore, the heat and humidity was another factor in the contamination of the books.
