Schmitz, Janson lead Wolverines

Emma Schmitz finished 13th and Neil Janson placed 18th Monday in the Park Rapids Invitational at Headwaters Golf Course.

Schmitz ran a 15:48 in the girls' varsity race. Teammate Evelyn Kumano placed 86th with a time of 23:17.

Lake of the Woods' Victoria Alexander won the race with a 14:42. Park Rapids' Lydia Lutz was nine seconds off the winning pace with a 14:53.00. Perham's Cassie Beseman placed third with a 15:21 and paced her Yellowjackets to a team victory.

Neil Janson paced the WDC boys' team with a time of 18:06.31. Joey Pate was 17 places behind Janson with a time of 18:42.25. Zach Bernu was 46th with a 19:03.57. Will Eliason and Brody Wangness were 60th and 64th with times of 19:37.50 and 19:42.19. Lukas Krueger came in with a time of 21:05.55 for 81st place.

Nevis star Bryon Shuldt ran a winning time of 16:05.84 but it was Perham that dominated the boys' meet with six places in the Top 10. Keith Schornack led the way with a third-place time of 16:07.20.

Schmitz earns all-conference honors

Emma Schmitz took ninth and earned all-conference honors Thursday at the Mid-State meet at Crosswoods Golf Course in Cross Lake.

Schmitz ran a 15:20.62.

Park Rapids' Lydia Lutz won the meet with a 14:34.10 while Staples-Motley's Lisa Reichert took second with a 14:39.56 and Detroit Lakes' Abby Ullyott finished third with a 14:57.53.

Detroit Lakes scored 47 points in winning the girls' meet.

Neil Janson earned honorable mention with a 13th place finish in the boys' meet. Janson ran an 18:28.11. Zach Bernu ran a 19:20.38 for 27th place. Will Eliason and Joey Pate with 33rd and 34th with times of 19:43.57 and 19:54.26. Brody Wangsness posted a 20:35.55 to claim 40th place.

Detroit Lakes' Dylan Ramstad-Skoyles, Brandon Olson and Jason Stallman took the top three places as the Lakers dominated the boys' meet with 21 points.
