Russell Sherwood Nelson, 82, of Sebeka, died May 20, 2006, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
He was born May 14, 1924, to Severt and Mabel (Hatlestad) Nelson in Paddock Township, Otter Tail County. He married Eleanor Haukeness on April 20, 1947, at the Paddock Bethel Church. He farmed in Paddock Township his entire life, until his retirement in 1981 when the couple moved into Sebeka. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and an active member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Sebeka. He served on the Paddock Township Board for 26 years and on the Sebeka School Board for 18 years. He liked being outdoors, gardening, hunting and woodworking.
Funeral Services are 1 p.m. today (Thursday) at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Sebeka, with the Rev. Mark Manning officiating. Honorary pallbearers are all who called him friend. Active casketbearers include Doug Koskiniemi, Albin Nikkari, Charles Ljungren, Raymond Raatikka, Harold Kvanvig, Michael Nelson and Eric Nelson. Inurnment will be at Paddock Bethel Cemetery, Otter Tail County, at a later date. Arrangements are being made by Wevley Funeral Home of Sebeka.
Survivors include: his wife; son, Gregory (Tricia A.) Nelson of Danvers, Minn.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; Joel O. Nelson of Anoka, Minn.; other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Nelson; daughter-in-law, Shirley Nelson, and sister-in-law, Mildred Nelson.
