Rural Minnesota CEP of Wadena celebrated the organization's 40th anniversary by inviting public officials, candidates for office and the community to an open house last Friday afternoon at the WorkForce Center.

Open houses were held at the other seven RMCEP sites as well, said Jason Cummings, a resource development specialist for the private, non-profit organization. Some of the goals of the open houses were to let people know what RMCEP does and what the organization's needs are, he said.

The primary goal and philosophy of RMCEP is that work is foundational to individual success and good workers are the foundation for a community's success, said Dan Wenner, RMCEP director.

RMCEP helps people get the training they need to get a good job, he said. Wenner started as a client for RMCEP 21 years ago.

Services that RMCEP provides include training for new occupations, skill assessment and development, support for surviving job loss or transitioning to self-sufficiency, career assessment and planning, job search and job readiness assistance, on the job training, and a staffed Resource Center with job listings, publications and employer information. In addition to assisting the general public finding jobs, RMCEP offers its services to employers, adults, low-income adults and families, youth, senior citizens, Minnesota Family Investment Program participants and dislocated workers.

RMCEP has been in Wadena for 10 years, Wenner said. Prior to that the Staples site served the area.

"It's been a great location," he said.

The WorkForce Center is in the same building as Wadena County Social Services.
