Raymond Allen Mattson, 56, of Menahga, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.

He was born to Edward and Florence (Kettunen) Matson on May 22, 1952, in Park Rapids. He was baptized and confirmed in the Apostolic Lutheran Faith. He attended school in Menahga. He did acquire his GED a little later in life, which he was extremely proud of, so much so that he had it displayed on his wall. He became disabled at a very young age and he remained at home with his parents and helped care for them until their death. He then purchased his own home in Menahga, which he was very proud of.

He enjoyed walking and doing small projects on his home. He loved to visit with family and friends and enjoyed a good cup of Kaavia (coffee); he always had that bottomless pot.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, at Wevley Funeral Chapel in Sebeka, with the Rev. Art Skoog officiating. Pallbearers were his family. Interment will be in Menahga City Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Wevley Funeral Home Sebeka.

Survivors include two sisters, Carol Haataja of Deer Creek, and Bernice Matson of Wadena; three brothers, Lester (Helen) Mattson of Menahga, Clarence Mattson of Elk River, Minn., and Leslie (Verna) Mattson of Menahga; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins too numerous to mention.
