A series of meetings in October will bring the Wadena-Deer Creek school levy debate to Bluffton, Deer Creek and Wadena.

John Gravelle, a representative of the Vote Yes for Kids committee pushing for levy passage, met with Wadena-Deer Creek school board members Sept. 17 to update them on his group's progress.

Gravelle urged board members to be prepared with information but flexible about how the meetings would go. The following meeting dates and locations were set:

  • Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Deer Creek Community Center
  • Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Bluffton Community Center
  • Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the high school commons in Wadena

The meetings are hosted by the district, which is prohibited from actively seeking yes votes. But Superintendent Jerry Enget said he plans to present the facts and be ready to answer voters' questions.
"I view our district as always being up front as far as what the needs are," he said. "That's how we're going to present it."

Enget said he's ready to make his presentation, but he also hoped the audience will have questions and comments.

"It's a time for some input and a time for some interaction," he said.

Gravelle said while the district presents the facts, his committee is pounding the pavement to secure yes votes.

"It's become a small army of people and they've been doing a great job," he said.
