As a seventh candidate filed for one of three open seats on the Wadena-Deer Creek School Board at the end of the day Tuesday, a primary runoff was triggered.
Incumbents Ann Pate, William Higgs and Betty White filed early for re-election. But since their filing, four challengers have emerged: Janine Hudson, of Wadena; Wayne Perkins, of Deer Creek; Michael Girard, of Deer Creek; and John Moenkedick of Deer Creek. With seven people running, a primary election will be held in the district Sept. 12, provided one of the seven doesn't withdraw before Thursday's deadline to do so.
Three will vie for the District 5 Wadena county commission seat: Dave Whitaker, Norman Hillukka and Dave Schermerhorn. Dave Mattila will retire from the position. Incumbent Bill Stearns re-filed to keep his seat as District 3 county commissioner. Also, Lane Waldahl re-filed for District 1 county commissioner.
Rosalie Miller filed for the Wadena County auditor/treasurer position and will run against incumbent Char West.
State Rep. Dean Simpson (R-New York Mills) filed with the Minnesota Secretary of State's Office to seek re-election to Minnesota House District 10B. He will run against Tim Nieminen of Wadena, the DFL candidate.
