What are your hobbies? Fishing, reading, restoring antiques, bird watching, cooking, target shooting.
Tell us about your childhood: Raised in northeast Iowa, spent summers on Upper Twin Lake east of Menahga.
Who was your biggest influence growing up, and why? My father. He was the most honest man I've ever known.
Who is your biggest hero right now, and why? Living hero would be Jimmy Carter. I believe he was the only honest president we've had since I was born, and sacrificed popularity to do what he felt was right.
What was the proudest moment of your life? When my daughter was born.
What is your most embarrassing moment? My first day wearing glasses in the first grade. I was the first kid in my class to wear them.
What is something about you that would surprise people to know? I used to work in the Texas and Oklahoma oil fields, painted beer trucks, sold cows, restored antique furniture and almost became a school teacher.
If you had one day all to yourself with an unlimited budget, what would you do? Buy out Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to ensure I had more time to give it all some thought.
If you could make one law, what would it be? Politicians and government officials would actually be held accountable for their poor decisions.
What's your favorite book? "The Education of Little Tree," by Forrest Carter.
What's your favorite movie? "Casablanca."
What's your favorite TV show? "The Beverly Hillbillies."
What's your favorite food? Rack of lamb with mint jelly.
