The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently awarded WDC Public Schools $950,461 in Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds for the construction of the shelter. The school sustained extensive damage from the EF4 tornado that struck Wadena on June 17, 2010. This project will give the community a shelter that can be utilized to protect students, staff and residents during times of severe weather. The facility will also be used by the school for physical education, athletic events and school programs.
