A Park Rapids man was charged with domestic assault by strangulation Jan. 23 in Wadena County District Court.
Early the morning of Jan. 23, a Wadena County Sheriff's deputy responded to St. Joseph's Hospital emergency room in Park Rapids for a report of an assault that had happened the previous day.
A Menahga woman said she and William Leroy Knapp III had been arguing when Knapp ran toward her, grabbed her throat, choked her and threw her to the ground, court documents said. The victim hit her head on the sidewalk during the alleged assault.
According to court records, Knapp admitted to an investigator that he had argued with the victim and that he had "flipped out."
A first appearance has been scheduled in the case for March 30.
