The cold, rainy weather didnt do much for sporting events last week but the Wolverines boys tennis team did get one match in on May 9 against Park Rapids Area.
Aaron Nelson, the Wolverines No. 1 singles player, defeated Mark Smith 6-2, 6-0 and the No. 2 doubles team of Tyler Gress and Jeff Brown also won the Wolverines only two points in the 5-2 Mid-State Conference tennis loss to the Panthers.
Wadena-Deer Creek had a couple close matches that got away.
Derek Blazek, at Wolverines No. 3 singles lost to Panthers Jordan Anderson 5-7, 4-6, and the No. 1 doubles team of Chad Peterson and Aaron Taggart lost a close two-set match by scores of 5-7, 6-7 to the Panthers duo of Joe Penning and Ben Waller.
The Mid-State Conference meet scheduled for Saturday in Park Rapids was postponed due to the weather and resumed Monday.

The Wolverines finished fourth with 18 points as Gress took first place at No. 4 singles. Wolverine singles players Jacob Hillesland at No. 2 and Blazek at No. 3 finished in third place while Nelson at No. 1 placed fourth. The doubles tandem of Peterson and Taggart took third place in the first doubles action while the Wolverines No. 2 doubles duo of Tom Leyh/Jeff Brown finished in fifth.
Staples-Motley won the Mid-State crown behind three first-place finishers in singles action for 27 points.
The Wolverines (2-10 overall, 2-8 conference) traveled to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Tuesday and host Aitkin at 4:30 p.m. today (Thursday).
