Senior health clinic dates set for September

Senior Health Clinics, sponsored by Wadena County Public Health, will be held on the following dates:

• Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at Christian Missionary Alliance Church Verndale.

• Friday, Sept. 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Sebeka Senior Center.

• Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Nimrod Senior Center.

• Wednesday, Sept. 23 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Menahga Senior Center.

• Friday, Sept. 18 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Humphrey Manor.

Health screening including blood pressure, medication review, foot care, immunizations, health information and referrals are provided. Bring your medications along. There is a $15.50 fee for foot care. Please bring your Minnesota Health Plan card if you have one.

WDC invites families to Back-to-School Open House, Aug. 26

Wadena-Deer Creek Public Schools will host a Back-to-School Open House for students and families on Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the elementary and middle/high school.

Attendees will have an opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms, deposit lunch money, pay activity fees, fill out necessary forms, pick up class schedules and enjoy a free picnic-style meal served at both schools.

Wadena-Deer Creek K-12 classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 1; WDC Preschool begins Sept. 8. The school calendar for 2015-16 and school supply lists for grades K-6 are posted on the school's website.

Biggest Loser contest begins Sept. 15

The Verndale Alliance Church will be holding a Biggest Loser contest beginning Sept. 15 and ending Dec. 15. Anyone feeling motivated to lose a few pounds is welcome to join. Teams of three, all men or all women, will compete against other teams to be the biggest losing team. There will also be a competition men and women for the biggest group loss. Each week you will have a weigh in and point check. You will earn points for various goals reached each week.
