Forty 33-gallon bags of wood shavings were gathered during the WDC elementary gym refinishing, which took place in the weeks after school was let out for the summer.
Building Maintenance Systems was given the task of refinishing the Wadena-Deer Creek school gym, which was a timely process, said Todd Uselman, owner of Building Maintenance Systems. He and others worked long days over a couple weeks to finish the floor.
During the process, the bags of wood shavings were gathered from sanding the floor. The wood shavings will be taken to the incinerator to be disposed of.

The process involves first using a riding sander to get the heavy finish off. Then, a smaller sander is used to get the little spots. A final sanding is then done.
After sanding, two coats of sealer are put on the floor and striping is done.
Todd Uselman, and his brother Steve Uselman, worked on the project along with Todd's sons, Justin, Dale and Aaron.
After sanding and sealing the floor, striping is done.
Striping on the floor included three basketball courts and three volleyball courts. Each court is a different color, Todd Uselman said.
He said he knows the gym floor is pretty old because some of the wood is Bird's Eye Maple, which isn't used as much today. This was the first gym floor refinishing Todd Uselman had done and he enjoyed doing the project, he said.
The completed gym will be ready for students to play sports on when they return to school this fall.
