Nancy Ann Gilster, 59, of Nimrod, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at home under the care of Hospice and her loving family.
She was born Feb. 7, 1950, at Wadena, the daughter of Dorn and Elaine McCormick, and the oldest of six children. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Sebeka.
She grew up on her parents' farm and attended Sebeka Public School with the class of 1968. She married Larry Dean Gilster on Sept. 30, 1967. The couple moved to Nimrod where they raised their family.
She worked for the DNR for 27-1/2 as a fire watcher. She was well-known for serving on the Nimrod Pageant Committee for 31 years, the Nimrod Booster Club for 25 years of which she was president for 12, a Nimrod 4-H Club leader, and she served as secretary of the High School Rodeo Circuit (when Hollie participated from 1994-96). She was also a volunteer with the Nimrod Easter Egg Hunt, belonged to the Nimrod Hall Association, was a member of the United Methodist Church, the OES Grand Family from 2001-2002, and the Itasca Chapter 70 for the last 27 years. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.
Memorial services were held Friday, March 6 at the United Methodist Church in Sebeka with the Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. Honorary pallbearers were grandchildren, great-grandchildren, Eastern Star, Nimrod royalty and her lifelong friends. Inurnment will be in the spring in the Nimrod Cemetery.

Survivors include her loving husband, Larry, of Nimrod; three children, Terry of Wadena, Dean (Cindy) of Detroit Lakes, and Hollie Jo (Ryan) Eastlund of Nimrod; five grandchildren; her parents, Dorn (Pat) and Elaine of Sebeka; five siblings, Patrick (Diane) of Sebeka, Diane (Paul) Akridge of Augusta, Ga., Janice Broll of Hutchinson, Minn., Herb (Theresa) of Menahga, and Ben (Wendy) of Sebeka; sisters-in-law Doreen (Chum) Sycks and Glenda Gilster; numerous nieces and nephews; three stepgrandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; also a special daughter Teri (Evan) McAllister and children.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Herbert and Hilda Johnson; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Evelyn Gilster; daughter-in-law, Christine Gilster; and brother-in-law, Harold Gilster.
