Myrlyn Opal (Hentila) Lykins, 86, of New York Mills, passed away March 21, 2009, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.

She was born Oct. 23, 1922, at home in Homestead Township, rural New York Mills, to Nickolai and Jessie (Fish) Mathiason. She grew up on the family farm in Homestead Township and attended Davies Country School, District 186. On Aug. 23, 1939, she married Edward Maasch at home in Homestead Township. Together they farmed in Homestead Township before moving to Grand Rapids, Minn., where Ed was employed in the lumber yard. She was employed at the Itasca Nursing Home in Grand Rapids from 1965 until her retirement in 1985. Ed passed away on March 11, 1975. On April 9, 1977, she was married to Bob Lykins in Grand Rapids. They made their home in Grand Rapids. Bob passed away on Jan. 6, 1983. She enjoyed life and traveling. In 2000, she made her home in New York Mills. On Oct. 27, 2001, she married Edward Hentila in Esko, Minn.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills with the Rev. Jon T. Haakana officiating. Interment will be in Itasca Cemetery, Itasca County, Grand Rapids, Minn. Arrangements were provided by the Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills. Survivors include her husband, Edward Hentila, of New York Mills; three daughters, Shirley (Don) Jamsa of Grand Rapids; Opal Asback of Proctor; Barbara Maasch of Spokane, Wash.; three sons, Lloyd (Darlene) Maasch of Grand Rapids; Allan (Patricia) Maasch of Elk River; Steven (Brenda) Maasch of Esko; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alvina Mathiason of Grand Rapids; many of relatives; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Edward Maasch and Bob Lykins; sister, Mae Rice; two brothers, Marvin Mathiason and Milo Mathiason; and sister, Jennie Bickford.
