Miss Wadena candidates prepare for pageant

Seven contestants are seeking the title of Miss Wadena 2007 at the Miss Wadena Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Wadena Memorial Auditorium.

Seven contestants are seeking the title of Miss Wadena 2007 at the Miss Wadena Scholarship Pageant at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Wadena Memorial Auditorium.

"She's out of this World" is this year's theme. The pageant will include special performances by Miss Wadena 2006, Briana Grothmann, fifth- and sixth-grade Wadena-Deer Creek lip-sync winners and the Just For Kix -- Mini Kix dance group.

Contestants are Danielle Nehk, Sasha Koljonen, Kayla Youngbauer, Stephanie Koljonen, Rachel Davis, Rachel Papillon and Erika Gilb.

Little attendants are Kylee Hopp, Leah Spilman, Abby Motschenbacher, Tiffany Meeks, Casey Volkmann, MacKenzie Salge and Mikaela Koehnen.

Last year's Miss Wadena, Briana Grothmann, will give up her crown. Her little attendant is Brandy Hensch.

Tickets are available at Peters Snyder Drug, First National Bank of Wadena or from contestants. Tickets also are available at the door that night.

Danielle Nehk is the daughter of Denise Scheer and Darin Nehk and is sponsored by Peters Snyder Drug. She will sing "Crazy" by Patsy Cline. She has four siblings: Andrew, Isaiah, Izabella and Justin. After her 2008 graduation, she plans to attend Minnesota State University Moorhead for business and marketing. She enjoys singing, hanging with friends, going to amusement parks, tubing down the river, snowmobiling, watching movies and laying on the boat. Her little attendant is Kylee Hopp.

Sasha Koljonen is the daughter of Diane Vry and Phil Koljonen and is sponsored by the VFW Elmer Goche Post 3922. She will perform a speech on VFW (Bob Hope). She has four siblings: Stephanie, Josh, Austin and Aiden Randall-Vry. She graduated in 2007 and will go to college at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She likes to exercise and listen to music. Her little attendant is Leah Spilman.

Kayla Youngbauer is the daughter of Chris and Kelly Youngbauer and Gary and Valerie Schwartz, and is sponsored by Youngbauer's Landscaping. She will sing "Waters Ripple and Flow" by Jay Althouse and will be accompanied by Hannah Larson. She has seven siblings: Josh, Olivia, Rachel, Jack, Haley, Garet and Adam. After her 2008 graduation, she plans to attend UND or UMD for nursing. She enjoys being with friends and family, singing with the radio, shopping, driving her car, four-wheeling, basketball, softball and jogging. Her little attendant is Abby Motschenbacher.

Stephanie Koljonen is the daughter of Diane Vry and Philip Koljonen and is sponsored by Lyle's Shoe Store. She will perform a dance. She has four siblings: Sasha, Josh, Austin and Aiden Randall-Vry. She graduated in 2007 and plans to attend college at Alexandria Technical College for law enforcement. She enjoys boxing and any sport and volunteering. Her little attendant is Tiffany Meeks.

Rachel Davis is the daughter of Shelly Davis and Stephen Davis and is sponsored by Wadena Medical Center, Ltd. She will sing "Don't Forget to Remember Me" by Carrie Underwood and will be accompanied by Briana Grothmann. She has four siblings: Ryan, Jessica, Connor and Carson. She graduated in 2007 and plans to attend the University of North Dakota for pediatric nursing and someday be a pediatrician. She enjoys playing volleyball, rollerblading, being outside, traveling and scuba diving. Her little attendant is Casey Volkmann.

Rachel Papillon is the daughter of Stephen and Linda Papillon and is sponsored by the Boondocks Cafe. She will perform a piano solo of "Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin. She has eight siblings: Andrew, Nicole, Naomi, David, Daniel, Timothy, Bethany and Christopher. She graduated in 2007 and plans to attend the Association Free Lutheran Bible School for two years. She enjoys running, scrapbooking, playing the piano and French Horn, listening to music, playing sports and spending time with family and friends. Her little attendant is MacKenzie Salge.

Erika Gilb is the daughter of Todd and Sharon Gilb and is sponsored by McDonald's. She will sing "On Eagles Wings" by Michael Joncas. She has two siblings: Joshua and Danica. After she graduates in 2008, she plans to attend college, start a career and go on from there. She enjoys music, dance line, hunting and fishing, demo derbies, hanging out with her special friends and family and having a good time. Her little attendant is Mikaela Koehnen.
