Officials find missing Brainerd man’s body near Mississippi River

Investigators received credible information Ciminski was seen walking on Bluff Avenue in Brainerd.

BRAINERD — A search of north Brainerd Thursday, July 21, led to the discovery of the body of the 64-year-old Brainerd man reported missing Monday.

The family of John Ciminski reported him missing after he was last seen about 8 a.m. Saturday walking in north Brainerd with no known or suspected destination. Ciminski had a history of chronic medical conditions that could endanger his welfare, the Brainerd Police Department reported.

Police requested public assistance in finding Ciminski by asking people to review video from surveillance cameras and report any information to law enforcement. Thursday, investigators received credible information Ciminski was seen walking on Bluff Avenue in Brainerd. This led law enforcement to conduct a ground search of an area between Bluff Avenue and the Mississippi River. Shortly after 1 p.m., Ciminski was found dead in this area.

An autopsy will be performed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. No foul play is suspected at this time, police reported.

In a news release, the Brainerd Police Department expressed condolences to the Ciminski family and thanked the following for their assistance: Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Baxter Police Department, Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources-Enforcement Division, Brainerd Fire Department, Crow Wing County Drone Team, and the K-9 search and rescue team from Central Lakes Search and Rescue.
