HACKENSACK, Minnesota — A 13-year-old Motley girl died Sunday, Sept. 4, in a boating accident on Ten Mile Lake in Cass County.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash, reported at 10 p.m., in rural Hackensack. According to the report, a 2017 Ranger boat was traveling on the lake near the shore when it possibly struck something on or near the shoreline, causing it to stop abruptly and throwing the girl forward in the boat.

Lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated by family members on the scene and further assisted by first responders. The girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the boat, a 50-year-old man from Horace, North Dakota, suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene.
The people involved in the crash were relatives who were staying at a family cabin. An autopsy is scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office and the incident remains under investigation.
