Mildred Elvira Miller, 92, of Wadena, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2007, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born Feb. 23, 1915, to T. Selian and Fern (Price) Sheveland in Hanley Falls, Minn. She graduated from Hanley Falls High School and the St. Cloud State Teachers College. While teaching at the elementary school in Verndale she met Gordon Miller. They were married May 18, 1944, in Wadena. To this union, two sons were born. Gordon passed away on Dec. 19, 1956. After his death, she returned to teaching and taught in Verndale and later in the Wadena school district until her retirement. After retiring, she spent a good share of her time trying to help elderly people by offering to drive them to places they needed to go.
She will be remembered for placing others' needs before her own and for her tremendous positive attitude no matter how grave the circumstances were. She loved watching sports on TV, working crossword puzzles, crocheting, embroidery and doing things for family and friends. She also loved all animals; especially a little dog she named Snuggles, who she referred to as her "grandpuppy." She was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served as the primary choir director.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 15, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wadena with the Rev. Rob Nelson officiating. Burial will take place in the Wadena Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Hegarty, Glen Aagard, Mark Johnson, Gordy Aagard, DeWayne Aagard and Travis Brown. Visitation will from 5-8 p.m be on Thursday evening. at the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena.
She is survived by her sons, Allen and Dale, both of Wadena; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
