Matie Leah Nicol, 99, of Motley, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, just four days before her 100th birthday.
She was a resident of Harmony House at Motley. She was born Feb. 17, 1907, at Dexter. She was married to Walter David Nicol for nearly 50 years. She was a devoted mother and a good homemaker. Her sons-in-laws were particularly fond of her tasty baked beans. She and Walter enjoyed square dancing and horse back riding. They were the parents of two daughters: Carmen (David) Nordell of Mesa, Ariz., and Karen (Eldon) Morey of Motley, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on her birthday, Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Thomastown Covenant Church, north of Staples with the Rev. Jack Trosen officiating. Burial was in the Church Cemetery with the Bielema Family Funeral Home in Verndale in charge of arrangements.
