Mary Ellen Tappe, 73, of Wadena, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 29, 2007, at Tri-County Hospital in Wadena.

She was born to Charles and Mary Eva (Kennedy) Fearing on March 26, 1934, in Leslie Township of Todd County. On Nov. 30, 1956, she married Lloyd Tappe at Staples. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wadena where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher. She also was a day care provider for many years.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 4, in the United Methodist Church in Wadena with the Rev. Larry Hager officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Courtney Volkmann, Caitlin Volkmann, Casey Volkmann, Kelly Tappe, Matt Tappe, Kaley Tappe, Kyle Tappe, Toni Vry, Bob Vry, Nikki Vry and Brandon Vry. Active pallbearers were Tim Volkmann, Jackie Tappe, Eric Tappe, Jason Skorich, Angie Immonen, Becca Immonen, Matt Neisess and Cari Neisess. Burial took place in the Wadena Cemetery following the services. The Johnson Memorial Home of Wadena was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her daughter, Sue Volkmann of Bluffton; sons, Rick of St. Michael, Randy of St. Anthony, Ross of Champlin and Ron of Morris; 10 grandchildren; and sister, Phyllis Shinabarger of Long Prairie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, on Dec. 4, 2001; her parents; sisters, Marguerite Steffen and Josephine Reichert; brothers, Daryl, Dale, John, Eldon and Loren.
