Marvin Perry Dahlvang, 90, of Wadena, and formerly of rural Verndale, passed away Feb. 24, 2009, at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena.
He was born Aug. 26, 1918, in rural Staples to Perry and Eva (Anderson) Dahlvang. He married Esther Leone Young on Sept. 22, 1940, in Wadena. He was a farmer and sold seed corn for 38 years. He loved to travel and enjoyed spending eight winters with his son and family in California. Most years he attended the Minnesota State Fair and for 70 years he was a part the Dahlvang family reunion. He was a photographer who also enjoyed gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was active in his church and with the Community Camera Club. He enjoyed visiting with everyone he met and he was loved by everyone.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 28 in the Thomastown Covenant Church in rural Staples, with the Rev. David Harlow officiating. Pallbearers were his grandsons, David Dahlvang, Brian Hendershot, Michael Hendershot, Derek Bratteli, Mitchell Bratteli, Zachary Bratteli and Mike Cariveau. Interment was at West Lyons Cemetery in rural Nimrod. Arrangements were with the Johnson Memorial Home in Wadena ( www.johnsonmemorialhome.com ).
Survivors include his loving wife, Esther; son, Duane (Peggy) of Visalia, Calif.; daughters, Mardell Hendershot of Wadena, and Marlys (Darrell) Bratteli of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and Eva; brothers, Clayton and Edger Dahlvang; and one granddaughter.
