Amanda "Mandy" Anna Florence (Axel) Fritz, 95, passed away April 29, 2009, at Perham Memorial Home.

She was born Oct. 1, 1913, in Swanville, Minn., to August and Frieda (Koschinck) Axel. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Swanville. She was employed in Minneapolis in 1936 and then returned to Swanville. She married Herman Fritz in 1947 in Swanville. She and Herman purchased the grocery store in New York Mills from William and Lempi Schenk and operated it until 1968 when Herman passed away. She continued in the business until 1972 when she sold the store to Dean Simpson. She continued to work for Simpson for four years, then retired to her home at Big Pine Lake, rural Perham. She loved the lake, fishing and gardening.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with the Rev. Jon T. Haakana officiating. The pallbearers were Dean Simpson, Greg Johnson, Pat Kedrowski, Gerald Dresser, David Barber and Dennis Axel. She was laid to rest in Springbrook Cemetery, Swanville, Minn. Survivors include her sisters, Frieda Kedrowski of Swanville, Esther Barber of Swanville, and Edna (Jerome) Golombiecki of Little Falls; her brothers: Rhienhold Axel of Sartell, Minn., and Donald (Virginia) Axel of Burtrum, Minn.; many other relatives; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband ,Herman; and her siblings, Hattie Barton, Emma Hanson, Erna Dickman, Walter Axel, August Axel and Lawrence Axel.
